It took 5 to 6 months to get to Oregon. They used buffalo droppings instead of firewood because buffalo droppings burn faster. I LOVE THE OREGON TRAIL!!!!!
It started in 1843. They shot buffalo when they could. People died of diseases, mainly CHOLERA. Sometimes wheels ran over kids. They brought animals with them. There wake up call was usually a rifle shot in the air. The main story is that the people in England didn't like their king so they came over to what is now the United States of America and England's king did not like that so they had the Revolutionary War and we won. Then we won this place from England called Oregon Country and no won lived there so they got people to go there and those people are called pioneers. The Oregon Trail was dangerous, sad and amazing. But that is how we are the United States today. I love what we have done so far and we have so much more. One more thing they used to let there kids go and find buffalo droppings which are also buffalo chips and firewood. Still I love the oregon trail!
There is a deadly dissie called Cholera. Settelers got struck by lightning. Wagon transpertation stoped in 1920. There are many more answers. I LOVE THE ORGAN TRAIL.
On this unit so far I have learned many things Like...
* The Oregon Trail is 2,000 miles long. * 1 out of 10 people died. * The Oregon Trail trip started in 1843. * 25 years of migration. * about 500,000 emigrants traveled the Oregon Trail. * There was up to 100 wagons in a wagon train. * Independence, Missouri was the starting point. * They brought rice, flour, sugar, beans, bacon, dried fruit, and coffee for food. * They brought pots, pans, rifles, axes, shovels, farm animals, books, and clothing for supplies. * Gunshots was the wake up call. * Women would prepare grittlecakes and bacon. * Most people had 1 to 2 wagons but some had 3 to 4! * They left late April/early May. * They traveled up to 20 miles a day. * They wanted to be in Oregon in 5 months. * They stopped for lunch then didn't stop agin until it was almost dark. * Unhitched and fed their animals before they ate. * There was not a lot of trees along the way so they used buffalo droppings for fuel instead of wood. * They learned that larger dried buffalo droppings burned best. * On the Great Plains, the settlers might have buffalo or antelope for dinner. * After dinner they did necessary repairs to their wagons. * They shared stories, sang, danced, and played interments. * Sometimes helped pull wagons out of the mud. * Native Americans traded with settlers. * Some people died from other people that were careless when they were cleaning or holding their gun. * Some died from lightning, buffalo charges, oxen, rattle snakes, horses throwing riders, or the biggest killer witch is a disease Cholera. * Some children died from getting run over by wagons. * One of the hardest challenges was crossing rivers. * When they got to Oregon they cleared the land, grow plants, and built their new houses. * When they were still building their houses they slept in their wagons.
I have learned many things about The Organ Trail so far. Here are a few of my favorite things that I have learned.
-one out of every ten died on The Organ Trail -The Organ Trail began in 1843 -they used buffalo droppings as firewood -there were 40 to 100 in one wagon train -about 500,000 emigrants traveled The Organ Trail And many many more!
*Pioneers used buffle dropping instead of fire wood *people still used covered wagon even after the Transcontinental Railroad was made *about 1/10 died on the trail *Pioneers died from cholera (a disease that kills you in 24 hours)
I can't wait to learn more about the Oregon Trail here are some things I've learned so far *They use buffalo droppings for fire wood because there weren't alot of trees along the way *They're evening activities were singing, dancing, and playing the fiddle. *most families have 1or2 wagons some have 3 or 4! That's some facts I know so far.
I have learned a lot like- * They used buffalo droppings for fire wood because there were not a lot of trees on the trail. *The o.t. was 2000 miles long. *some people had 3-4 wagons most had 1-2. *Independence Missouri was the starting point. *People brought-flower,sugar,rice,beans,bacon,dried fruit, and coffe. *People also brought pots, pans, kettles, rifels, axes, shovels, and farm animals. *1/10 people died on the o.t. *about 500000 people traveled the o.t. * The o.t. began in 1843 *They wanted to finish in 5 months. *They left in April or early May. *Emogrants moved at sun rise.
*pioneers left for O.T. in late April and early May *buffalo chips were used to increase fires *pioneers covered 20 miles out of 2,000 a day *O.T. took 4-5 months *500,000 went trough O.T. *pioneers died by: rattlesnakes, accedential gun shots, run over by wagons, buffalo charges, cholera, etc
I learned that the wagons were 10 to 11 feet long, 2 feet deep and 4 feet wide. I also learned that if 10 people went on the Oregon trail about 1 person would die, just like a fraction 1/10 people.

Some had 3 or 4! •Left late April/early May •Want to finish in 5 months •Went up to 20 miles a day •Buffalo chips = buffalo droppings. Used instead of firewood some times. •Ate buffalo and antelope on the great plains •Set up camp fires at night •Evening activities - singing, dancing, fiddle, harmonica, prayers, lessons and storytelling •Pioneers traded with Native Americans - horses, food, clothing, tobacco, and guns •Native AMericans helped Pioneers cross rivers in the beginning •Dangers - accidental gun shots, run over by wagon, storms, lightning, drowning in river, wind storms, buffalo charging wagon trains, RATTLESNAKES, CHOLERA •Willanette Valley - early arrivals •After the arrival they cleared the landed, builded homes and planted crops •1869 Transcontinental rail roads were invented •The O.T. is important because it expanded the USA
