We had a wonderful time visiting Jesse Jones Park last week.
This model Homestead really showed us what life was like in the 1820's and 1830's in our area! Please share any new learning with us. What surprised you? What was a favorite part for you?
That field trip was awesome! Some of my favorite parts were the blacksmith the wood workers and how we got to see the model cabin. And the root cellar was cold. Not freezing but colder than outside. It was cool how the blacksmiths made a nail for Ms.P. 1000 nails a day! That is a lot of nails and helpful to the wood workers and other people who needed nails. I think they did a fantastic job building the replica of the park! It looked real! The wood workers shop was cool. The beater the carver and the other person. They did a great job. I like how they don't just work when were watching them. They actually work all day. The cabin was cool because all of those sayings came from the pioneers. I never would of knew that if we didn't go to that park. The root cellar was cold a good place to keep your crops. I would feel bad for the park if there was a hurricane or some big storm because it would destroy their whole park. You could tell they worked hard building it and learning about it. The gun shot was cool and amazing. Field trips are so much fun and you learn a TON!!!
ReplyDeleteI now if there is a hurricane it would stink all of the hard work is gone
DeleteI loved the field trip to Jessie Jones Park because we got to learn about pioneers and we got to lean that a good Blacksmith could make at least 1,000 nails a day and I loved studying about pioneers
ReplyDeleteI loved the field trip! My favorite thing is the blacksmith, I did not know that blacksmiths can make 1000 nails in one day. I also liked the animal skin and the cooking. I didn't know that they made bread ovens out of clay and rocks. I also didn't know that there fridges were underground. I'm going to tell you what I learned about the Indians. They slept on wood and made big leaf huts. They made pipes, pots and decorations out of clay. They used boomerangs and bow and arrows for fighting.
ReplyDeleteThe field trip was so fun. My favorite part was when they wrier black smithing and they can make 1000 NAILS a day all i can say to that is WOW! and I did not now that there are not only blacksmiths but there are also whitesmiths and so on. Next was the wood cutting i think it was still dangerous to smooth out the wood because if it slips it could cut you I think thats crazy! THen the doing I forgot how long it took but it took long time to make a shirt. That under ground hole was awesome it was like 12* cooler than out side are guide told me a trick if you billed a fire and put drinks under it it makes your drinks ice cold. I never new that the saying don't let bad bugs bite came from the pioneers. then when he took out his gun and shot it it was so cool. And then are bus was late. IT WAS SO FUN!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the field trip! I learned that the pioneers traded. They sang songs. They had blacksmiths. They had woodworkers. It was supper hard to make clothes. I learned that a good blacksmith can make 1,0000 nails a day. And that kids did all the work.

I liked the field trip so much. I loved learning about the Pioneers. The blacksmith were amazing and can make 1,000 nails in 1 day. The would workers were very cool, especially because when you are making the wood smooth using that tool I thought he would cut himself right in half. But he did not I was impressed. I also liked watching them make clothes I wanted to try it. I liked how they made cookies I wanted to try one badly and I liked making the pot it was fun. I really liked their type of refrigerators it was cold though. Here are some other things I liked, the gun shot it did scare me because I thought there was an actual boleti but there wasn't luckily. I also liked seeing the Native Americans. it was really fun!
ReplyDeleteI really liked our field trip I learned a lot about the Homestead. For example I did not know that there where Silver Smith and Iron Smith I only thought there where only Black Smith. Oh I thought the saying don't let the saying don't let the bed bugs bite was just a saying. But it actually means when they say sleep tight to tighten then strings of your bed so your bed so it doesn't sag at night and don't let the bed bugs bite means to get a stick a wack your bed to get all the bed bugs out because the mattress are made out of hay and the bed bugs like hay. It was cool when you walked in the underground seller how the temperature dropped so much it was actually kind of chilly in there. A good Black Smith can make 1,000 nails a day
ReplyDeleteI LOVED Jessie Jones Park. I learned that a good blacksmith can make about 1,000 nails in a day. I did not even think about having guitar and violin strings that are made of cow skins or hides. It was cold in the root cellar. I thought hiking to see the exhibit was pretty cool.
ReplyDeletethe tour guides did really really well. I thought the tool that you pull towards you was scary it was sharp!
I did not know how long it could take to make a BLANKET.
I had a lot of fun and learned a lot at Jessie Jones Park.
Our field trip was so much fun at the Jesse Jones Park and I learned a lot at the of really interesting things. I never knew that the Pioneers actually said sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bight but I learned that it means tighten you ropes so you bed does not sag at night and before you go to bed you need to get a stick hit your bed because you need to get out all of the bed bugs. The pioneers dug a place underground to keep their food cold because it is colder underground then on land. One of my favorite places was the black smith shop because I learned that a good blacksmith can make 1,000 nails a day.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot at Jessie Jones Park. I liked the Blacksmith. I learned that a good blacksmith could make 1,000 nails a day. It was also cool how they dug holes in the ground and put their food in it like a refrigerator. I loved the legend in the native american village. The cabin was cool. I would not want to sleep under my parent's bed every night. I also learned that stinkbugs are also called assassinated bugs. On the the trail, they made fires out of flint and steel. It's also cool because oxygen makes the fire bigger. I enjoy field trips. I'm looking forward to are next one!
ReplyDeleteIm looking forward to are next one too!!
DeleteI liked the black smith a lot. It was a lot of fun to see them work on the nails. I liked seeing the Indian tribe replica, especially the weapons. I thought it was ok when they fired off the real gun, it was very loud, but the second time it wasn't that bad because I covered my ears.

ReplyDelete*I learned that the blacksmiths didn't buy the stuff that they made, they made it themselves by hand.
*The wood carvers have to go through a process to get the wood just right.
*The sewing lady has to brush out the cotton and make all of the clothes by hand. You only get a new piece of clothing every once in a while.
*Root cellars are colder than I thought
*They use animal guts to make a cooking utensil
*They use every part of the animal. The skin is for leather, the fur is for coats, the meat is for eating and guts are for utensils.
*They eat bacon and beans.
*There houses are like giant lincoln logs put together
*The mother and father sleep on the bed. 7 or 8 of the older children sleep on the big shelve up on the ceiling and babies sleep in cradles and the little kids sleep under the bed.
* The Native Americans do lots of pottery.
*They have summer houses and other season houses.
*Native American usually don't wear clothes

I learned that they couldn’t live without a gun. And the blacksmiths had different jobs . I would be so bored if I were a pilgrim kid I would be so bored doing all those chores. I also learned that there are such thing as a silversmith. I also learned that there cabins weren’t that bad. They had so much land for 47 dollars it would cost millions of dollars today. They used animal skin to make clothing and blankets.
ReplyDeleteI learned that they couldn't just go to the store and buy there clothes the have to were the same clothes and on the way they would make the clothes. one of my favorite parts of the trip was the gun shot because you could see the fire coming out of the gun. I all so learned that they couldn't live with out a gun. It must of been hard walking that long I bet I couldn't live like that.
