I had a wonderful time listening to the fourth graders give their Living History speeches! As I was listening, my brain was surfing for new learning and fun facts. Also, I noticed that many of the famous people featured demonstrated amazing character traits that lead to their successes.
Please share your new learning, fun facts and/or thoughts about the important character traits of these famous people.

ReplyDeleteNeil Armstrong was the first human being to the moon. "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself." a quote from Franklin Delano Roosevelt. April 15th is National Jackie Roberson Day. Norman Rockwell illustrated Boys Life and Saturday Post. Juliette Gorden Low was known for founding Girl Scouts.
That quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt is very sincere.

Georgia O' Keefe- Died on March 6 1926
Elizabeth- She had 7 kids
Florence Nightengale- She had a job in England and died in 1910 at the age of 90 She also died of old age.
Annie Suliven-Her father abandoned her brother
Wangari Maathai- started school at age 8. She planted trees to make a forest that got tore down then went to jail because of it
Barbra Jordan- Born Feb. 21 1896. She died Jan. 17 1996
Lucretia Mott- died Nov. 11 1880
Susan B Anthony- In 1848 the women held a meeting about not treating women the same. She died in 1906

I learned about Dr. Seuss's first book which was "To Think That I Saw That On Mulberry St." I also learned some new facts about Marie Curie. She was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes. I learned some things about Elizabeth Katie Stanton who was the 8th child of 11 children! I learned some facts about Wangari Mauthai. She was the first Kenyan to win a Nobel Prize. I listened to facts about Juliette Gordan. She was known for founding the Girl Scouts program. I learned some new things about Franklin Roosevelt. His parents died when he was only 18, Franklin Roosevelt got Polio. He went to Harvard.
I learned a lot from the fourth graders. I can't wait to do that next year!

ReplyDeleteI Learned that Annie Sulvan's mother died, and a few years later her dad abandoned her and her brother. A few years after, Annie's brother died. When living with Helen Keller, she got a Honorary degree from Temple University in 1989, and had an eye infection and was blind in her right eye.
I learned that Jane Goodall's dad joined the army. Later in her life, Jane got a fever that got up to 105 degrease! After Jane got married, she had a son, but both of they died of a fever. After that tragic time in her life, she never married again. Jane is still alive today at age 90.
Franklin Roosevelt got sick, he recovered but was paralyzed from waist down. He died at age 63, and got his face put on a dime for appreciation for all that he'd done for our country.
I learned that Lucretia Moss had six children, and went to a Quackier Boarding School.
Florence Nightingale died at age 79, in the year 1910.
I learned that Eleanor Roosevelt's mom called Eleanor granny because she was ugly!
I learned that Susan B. Anthony died of heart failure and ammonia. With Susan's help, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming let women vote by the time she was died.
I learned that Barbara Jordan's grandpa got hit by a truck, and died about a month later.

Living History Museum was fun. I first went to Juliette Cardon Low who invented girl scouts. Next I went to Matthew Nelson he was the first african american to go to the North Pole. Then I went to Jane Godall she could carry 13 plates on her arms. Then I went to Wamgari Mathai who planted trees in rows, then Nelson Mandela who helped free black south africans. Last I went to Anne Sullivan who was blinded in her right eye and helped helen keller.
