Cultural Awareness for Everyone...C.A.F.E.!

Today was our first CAFE meeting! It was a great success! Many thanks to our friends Aiden, Ethan and Patrick for presenting on the topic of Chinese New Year. Thank you also for the red envelopes with the chocolate gold coins in them.

I gained a lot of new learning! What did you learn? Do you have any wow facts? What was your favorite part? Do you have a compliment of statement of gratitude for Aiden?

  1. I learned that one of the celebrations for Chinese New Year is getting new clothes and getting haircuts. My favorite part while making the slideshow was the part when I made the how to say Chinese New Year in mandarin. I had a fun time making the slideshow.

  2. I learned that the year I was born 2007 was the year of the golden pig. It is a special year because it only comes every 600 years! My favorite part was receiving the red envelopes with the chocolate coin inside. Great job Aiden!!

  6. I learned a lot about Chinese new year. Like for the new year people get new clothes , haircuts and pay debts. Also you should avoid wearing black because it is a symbol of death. I also learned that, since I was born in 2007, my animal is a pig!

  7. Hi! I learned a lot about Chinese New Year. Like You are suppose to were red and avoid black cause black is the color of death. 9. Toaday in CAFE I learned a lot about Chinese New Year. We learned how to say Chinese New Year in Mandrin. We received red envelopes with chocolate coins in them and they were very good! I learned that the year I was born, 2008 was the year of the rat! They start the New Year fresh by getting haircuts, getting new clothes, and paying debts. I learned that 2007, one year before I was born was special because that it was the golden pig and that it only came every 600 years. I learned that you should wear red and avoid wearing black because it means death. They sweep up their homes so they can get all the ghosts and bad luck away. We were also given a word search and on the back a coloring sheet of a dragon that will be fun to do! Thank you Aiden, Patrick, and Ethan. I enjoyed the slide show a lot and I will be looking forward to going to CAFE again!

  10. I learned that my year of the Chinese new year is the pig. I learned that 14 and 4 are bad luck if you get that much money and if you get an odd number of money. Thank you for making that cool production. I also learned that 6 Chinese dollars are the same as one of our dollars.

  11. Hi! I LOVED the slide show about Chinese New Year. I did not know about the red envelopes and how many dollars are in them. If you have these number of dollars: 4, 5, 7,or 24, you are unlucky and will have bad luck the whole year. You should not wear black on Chinese New Year because it is bad luck. You want to wear red which is the color of good luck. Black is the resemblance of death. There are 15 days of Chinese New Year that are celebrated. I was born in the year of the pig. There are 12 years of the Chinese New Year animal cycle. First year of the Rat. The second year of the ox. Then there is tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. I did not know the dragon was such an important animal in Chinese history. The Chinese people think that they descended from dragons. I also did not know that cleaning your house, getting a hair cut and paying off your debts are a good way to start the new year because you start the year out fresh. I am definately going back to C.A.F.E. (Cultural Awareness For Everyone) in two weeks. Also thank you Aiden, Patrick and Ethan for their really cool slides! I hope you enjoyed C.A.F.E.! BYE!

  12. I learned that on Chinese New Year you wear red for good luck, and black for bad luck. I really thought the red envelopes were fantastic looking they were really pretty! I also didn't know that they use Chinese New Year as a day to start fresh. I also didn't know that on Chinese New Year they like to clean out their house to sweep away the bad luck. I had a lot of fun at C.A.F.E learning about Chinese New Year!

  14. I am so sad that I was 🤒 on the first day of C.A.F.E. I wanted to go so bad and I also really wanted to see the Chinese new year presentation. I hope I can go next cafe meeting though. But Evan though I wasn't there I still learned some things by looking ate other peoples post. I learned from Max that you should not whear black on Chinese new years and from Says I learned that they get hair cuts to start the year off fresh. So Evan though I could not go I can still learn a lot from other people. But I still am disappointed that I could not go. I wonder what the next cafe meeting will be and 🤞 that I will be able to go to the next cafe meeting. I also can not wait for ms.p's presentation about the greek Easter. Evan though I have not been to cafe I can all ready tell that it's going to be a lot of fun and excitement.

  15. I was looking forward to today because today was CAFE! The topic was Chinese New Year and that was a very interesting subject. We learned that you clean out your houses and sweep out the bad luck before the Chinese New Year begins. We also learned that the color red is their lucky color and the two lucky animals are rabbits and dragons. I loved learning about the Chinese New Year traditions. Aiden, Ethan and Patrick did a wonderful job teaching us all about it. I'm excited for the next CAFE meeting. I can't wait to find out what it will be about!

  18. I learned so much at cafe today. I really enjoyed it . I learned that when I was born it was the year of the pig. Aiden, Ethan, and Patrick did a good job. I did not know that there was a 12 year cycle of animals. I learned that Chinese new year was 15 days. I learned that 6 dollars is only one here. I never knew that they made red envelopes and put money in them and gave them to people. Red is good to wear because black means death. They like to hang up colored lanterns. One sixth of the population celebrates Chinese new year. My favorite part was the slideshow. Aiden did a great job saying his name is Chinese. Thanks for teaching me so much, Aiden!
