  1. It has been interesting learning about the Oregon Trail! I learned that it takes about 4, 5 or 6 months to get to Oregon. I also learned that most people start the trail in Independence, Missouri. The trail was 2,000 miles. At night when it was time for everyone to sleep, all of the wagons in a group made a circle and the men took turns protecting the circle. Before the kids went to bed, they would play in the middle of the circle together. This was the only free time they had. Their goal was to get to Oregon before winter came because they didn't want to get stuck in the snow. They had to work together to achieve this very very hard goal.

  2. I love learning about the Oregon Trail! The children helped with chores such as going ahead of the wagon when at rivers and throwing the big stones out, milk the cow every morning and every night, fetch water from the lake, help with laundry, help cook, go hunting or fishing with parents, watch out for young children, and pick up buffalo chips and wood to light the fire. People went to Oregon for a new life, adventure, religious freedom, fresh air, and more. People would water proof the cloth or fabric by applying oil. People had to wait if there was a herd of buffalos blocking their way but if there was a a way around it they would slowly pass. People started killing buffalos for sport and food. They started getting the Indians mad because they needed the buffalos for clothing and food not sports. They also got mad beacause the pioneers started taking land and breaking agreements. Only 200 pioneers got killed by the Indians. The pioneers were also bringing diseases. Most pioneers got killed by accidental gun shots, snake bites, drouning, or diseases. Here was a little of what I learned recently about pioneers. Hope you enjoyed!

  3. I have learned a lot about the Oregon Trail. There were many dangers on the trail like Cholera, wagon accidents, drowning in rivers, accidental gun shots and snake bites. Some chores on the trail were cooking, cleaning and tending to the livestock. One famous stop on the trail was Independence Rock.
