iBook Success!

Today we each created our own page for our Oregon Trail iBook! Now all we have to do is name it, edit it and practice reading it for Pioneer Hour!

Please share your topic and a few facts with us.

Also, let us know what your favorite part of this process has been. Research? Typing your paragraph? Planning your widgets? Creating your page?

  1. My topic is Independence, Missouri. This was the most popular jumping off point for the Oregon Trail. People had to sell their homes and live in their wagons. It was founded in 1827. My favorite part of the process was planning my widgets.

  5. My topic is "circling wagons and night time traditions". Here are some facts: while the young ones dance the women do the chores and the men just sit, smoke, and talk! So rude! But luckily at 8:00 pm they have to get up on their feet and do something! They have to guard the circle. Here are my widgets: the little quiz and the gallery. I also have the scrolling side bar but I don't think it counts as a widget. I can't wait until pioneer hour!!

  12. Hi! I really like the title "Oregon Trail 101 basics for beginners." I really like this name because it sounds like a professional author wrote it. My topic is chimney rock. Chimney rock is 325 feet tall and it is losing height because of erosion and because it was used as target practice by the pioneers who shot at it. I LOVE THE OREGON TRAIL SO MUCH! Oh...whats that Pa...oh got to go...see you later! Bye!

  13. My favorite part of our pioneer unit was the iBook authors page. My topic is clothing. Some of my facts are: When it rained, the pioneers would wear oilskin ponchos, or they would take out an umbrella. Women would wear dresses or skirts. Also, both women and men would wear cotton usually. Those are only a few facts, I still have more though!

After the Americans thought of the term Manifest Destiney they thought they were better than everybody else.

  16. I am researching Fort Kearney. It was first built in 1848 to be used as a military post to protect the growing number of emigrants. It was named after General Stephen Watts Kearny. The "e" was added when postmen misspelled Kearny, Nebraska, which Fort Kearney is near. It was built where multiple trails merged to protect more. Fort Kearney was a Pony Express Station. It closed in 1871 after the Transcontinental Railroad was built.

  18. My favorite part about studying about the wagon was when we got to type in IBook author. My study was about the wagon and packing. It was interesting to learn that there were drawstrings at the front and back of the wagon. The cloth at the top of the wagon is called a canvas. I really liked doing the gallery and researching about the wagon was also a really good part. I sort of liked the whole thing.
