Living History Museaum

I had a wonderful time listening to the fourth graders give their Living History speeches!

As I was listening, my brain was surfing for new learning and fun facts. Also, I noticed that many of the famous people featured demonstrated many of the stances such as flexibility, persistence, empathy, resilience and optimism that lead to their successes.

Please share your new learning, fun facts and/or thoughts about the important mindset stances of these famous people.

  7. I really enjoyed the living history museum. Here are some facts that I learned.
John Muir: He was born in Scottland. He got married, had two children, and died of pneumonia.
Georgia O'keefe: In school she got teased for being artistic. She got married but her husband died. She died at the age of 98 on March 6, 1986.
Bessie Coleman: Her mom was a role model to her. She was the first African American woman to become a pilot.
Jane Goodall: she studied chimps and lived in Africa for 55 years. She once put earthworms in her pillow to see what would happen. She got divorced and got remarried.
Mother Teresa: She had to ask her mom permission to become a Catholic priest. She died at 87 of old age.
Dr. Seuss: Dr. Seuss knew he wanted to be an illustrator, and just like that he wrote "Cat in the Hat", next is "Sam I am". He had to be resilient, because when his wife died, he didn't stop and kept on going and that is that.
Neil Armstrong: starting at the age of 6 he knew he wanted to become a pilot. He was then the first person in history to be set off to the moon.
Florence Nightingale: she had eighteen dogs. She went to a nursing school in Germany. She walked around the hospital with a lantern at night to check on patients.
Milton Hershey: He was born on September 15th and died on October 15th. He was the person who made Hershey's chocolate.
    Hope you enjoyed!!

  9. I liked the living history speeches. The person I found most interesting was Althea Gibson. I learned that she was born in South Carolina and was alive during the great depression. She was one of the only black people that played tennis and she was very good! I'm looking forward to do this fun project next year in 4th grade.

  10. Yesterday and today, my class and I went to the fourth graders Living History Museum!
So my group first went to Neil Armstrong, I learned that Neil Armstrong got his pilots license before his drivers license, I could't really hear most of the things the kid was saying but I wrote this down. Next my group went to Florence Nightingale, she was a nurse and I am not really sure about this fact because of what Saya said but, what I think it is, that Florence Nightingale liked dolls a lot so she had 18 dolls! Then we visited Milton Hershey! He was the man who invented Hershey's Chocolate! Then we visited Jane Goodall, Jane Goodall was 5 years old when she discovered her passion for animals. Then we visited Mother Teresa, Mother Teresa was 14 when her brother went to the army. These were just the people who we visited on Tuesday.
On Wednesday we visited John Muir, Georgia O'keef, Bessie Coleman, Jane Goodall and Venus Williams. I did write facts about these people, but if I shared them, then my post would be very long. THE END

  11. Neil Armstrong:
When Neil Armstrong was six he knew that he wanted to be a pilot when he grew up. He got his pilot's license before his driving license. He was the first person to set foot on the moon.

    Florence Nightingale:
She was born into a very wealthy family. She love to play with dolls when she was young. She took care of her neighborhood's animals. She met the first woman nurse, Ms. Blackwell. She sadly died at 90.

    Milton Hershey:
He was persistent and resilient in his job. He always had a sweet tooth.

    Jane Goodall:
At age 5 she loved to love animals. In 1939 she left the country with her family because of the war. She remarried in 1955. When she visited the jungle she loved the sights and the animals especially the gorillas and monkeys.

    Mother Theresa:
For years she was a school teacher to her town's children. She got the Nobel Prize at age 69. She found a love for children at a young age. She loved to care for all of the homeless people of India. She tried to visit another country but her father said "No," but just ask your brother. At first people called her sister Teresa then she acted like a mother so they called Mother Teresa.

    Doctor Seuss:

He finished high school in 1867. He stared writing and drawing after he got out of college. He wrote some books and he sent them to s publisher. The publisher liked his books and for his next book they gave Dr. Seuss 274 words for his next book. After that book his boss gave him 50 words and told him to turn it into a book. At age 87 his books still sell around the country.

Florence Nightingale was empathetic to the men she treated during the war so was Mother Teresa with her children. Dr.Seuss was probably flexible with his boss giving him so many words but he still wrote amazing and famous books.

  12. The fourth graders did a great job on there living history museum. I learned about Lou Gehrig and how he hit 4 home runs in one game. I also learned that he hit 161 home runs in one season. Lou Gehrig hit 400 home runs in his career. I also learned about Jackie Robinson and how he was the first African American to play MLB and he won MVP five times and that is really hard to do. Jackie Robinson also stole home to win the world series and that is awesome. When Jackie Robins retired he made it to the hall of fame a couple years later and most baseball players do not make it there. I cannot wait until I get to be part of living history next year.
