Jesse Jones Nature Park

We had a wonderful time visiting a 1830's settlement and Native American village!

Please share your new learning and your thoughts about life in the 1830's compared to life in 2019!

  1. I liked the Native American village where we saw the corn on the cob that was used as toilet paper! that was interesting. And they used it to brush their teeth! who knew? Not me! I liked the little log cabin too. Im surprised how they only had been in there for just sleeping! That was new learning! I liked the the video about it the most though. It gave me 6 or 7 new learnings like the Native Americans actually lived there! I loved that field trip!

  2. I wonder how long it took to build the Pioneer village and a Native American village? I did not know the musket shot a metal ball .because bebe guns shoot copper balls. And I shoot a modern day bullet because they have a shell and powder underneath the led because only the led comes out of the barrel and when you the bolt pull up and towards the stock the shell comes out .

  3. What did the kids do for fun? I learned that their refrigerators were just an under ground place . I wonder how long it took to build the pioneer village? They brushed their teeth with a corn cob.

  4. I learned that the pioneer's refrigerators were called root sellers. I didn't know they used corn as toothbrush's. I thought it was cool how to take a shower they go sweat then go jump in the river. I had so much learning at the Jesse Jones Nature Park.

  5. I thought that the park was a little on the small side thats ok but it kind of looked like it was built in the 1830s because of the holes in the roofs the fallen down trees and the root cellar which is cool but for the village the chores were repairing the houses Houston is forested and swampy so where did they find the palms not many palm trees are in Houston today and those where manually planted imaging 300 years ago. I did not know they did note use that nozzle thing for the guns.

  6. I did not know that Indians sweat in a sweating room then jump in a river an thats how they take a shower. And their refrigerators are under ground. I thought that the houses had three beds a little bigger and a dinner table.

  7. Well the bathrooms are in the house and the houses are much bigger in 2019. What if in the 1830's it flood's in the barn then where would the boys sleep? What if the cabin gets destroyed? I didn't know the boys had to sleep in the barn if that happened to me I would go crazy.

  8. I loved going to the Jesse Jones Nature Park on Thursday. It was so fun. I learned that they didn't have houses, they had log cabins. In the cabin they didn't have sinks, bathrooms, ovens, microwaves, stoves, wall-paint, rugs, couches, a T.V, a refrigerator, a computer, video games, and more. I also learned that the girls got to sleep in the cabin, and the boys had to sleep outside. I also learned that they could have used corn on the cob to brush their teeth or they could have used it for toilet paper. I also learned that at night, the children had to bring the chickens inside so then they wouldn't get eaten by a possum, raccoon, coyote, or any other animal that would like to eat a chicken. My personal favorite part of the Field Trip was the chicken coop. That was one of the best field trips ever!

  10. I can't believe they had all that stuff, and no electricity! All of that is awesome! ESPECIALLY the fact that you can BRUSH YOUR TEETH WITH A CORN COB! But, the frustrating thing is that you have to cross a meadow to use the restroom! The houses (unless it was pouring rain.) were mostly for sleeping. I can't wait to learn more!

  11. I feel a little bad for the Native American boys because what if the barn floods, where will the boys sleep? I can't be believe they brushed their teeth with A CORN COB! In 2019, our homes are more than one room, the bathrooms are IN our houses,
and we use a tooth brush instead of a corn cob. I really enjoyed the field trip!

  13. I really enjoyed the trip! My favorite part was the root cellar. They used the root cellar as a refrigerator! I wonder what they did in free time. An interesting chore would be putting the chickens in the coop.

  14. The 1830s is more fun than I thought! I was wondering what would happen if the barn got flooded and the boys couldn't sleep in it then where would they sleep! Also I thought it was weird that they only went in there homes in the night time! It is also cool that sometimes they use corn cobs as toilet paper! I also thought that the root seller was very cool! 1830s is actually fun!
