Manifest Destiny Achieved!

Now that we have arrived in Oregon, let's talk about the big ideas of Westward Expansion!

Did the pioneers achieve their goals? Were the hardships of the trail worth the final result? Let's talk about the good, the bad and the final results of the trail!

  1. I think the journey was mostly worth it. Why? well the beautiful land the clean water. But for some it was not some lost there family members there friends there pets. Some had to leave family members and relatives. My wow is kids were so busy for years they could not go to school. But the results were awesome!

  2. Most of time they did achieve their goals. Yes and no. Yes because when they got there, they got fresh water, good farm land and 1 square mile of land. No, because they left family members, some people died and they left valuable items. It was also bad for the Native Americans because they lost most of their land. In the end, it is very complicated.

  3. It's complecated! Well I think it was good for some people because they were happy with the land, crops and water there but it was bad for some people because of losses the journey and how they have to work and build their houses but they get no money for it! So I think it was so so. I would probably go but I would be really sad if somebody I knew died. That is was I think about the Oregon Trail!

  4. Well some families had not a great time because of deaths. But some made it to Oregon fine but then they had to build a house and that's a lot of work. Also there is free land, clean water and areas to play. But the kids would have to wait a few years to go to school because they had to work and there were not school build yet. So it was good for some people and bad for some people.

  5. It was mostly worth it. Some of it was not. It wasn't worth it because, well, the first people who traveled had to start over-completely from scratch! Also, a lot of people lost a lot of family members and left some behind. It was worth it because they got beautiful free land and clean water. Who wouldn't want THAT?!

  6. It's complicated. I think most of the hardships were and weren't worth it. It was worth it because most of the things that the government said were true. There was: good fresh clean water, good farm land, kind neighbors and one square mile of land. It wasn't worth it because some people lost family, they had to make do with a makeshift cabin, and along the trail people left items. It probably wasn't worth it for the Native Americans, they were scrunched together on reserves. It was hard because the pioneers had to start everything from scratch.

  7. Some people it wasn't good. They lost all of their belongings, people lost family members and some got sick. I think kids were happy that they did't go to school for a little bit. And other people did have good have a good time . Because they did not lose anybody and did no lose anything at all.

  8. It is complicated. I think it was both for some people it was worth it. But for some it was not worth it. Because people lost too many familly members and if you are afraid of hard work. It would be very fun for you. The reasons I think it was worth it is because there was cheap land, good farming land, fresh water, a square mile of land and more. It definitely was not good for the Native Americans. The kids didn't go to school the first couple of years! so basically it is a draw!

  9. Yes I think it is worth it because they had fresh air and lots more!!! It is not worth it because there was cholera and other diseases!! There were many dangers on the Oregon Trail. It was worth it because they had free land It was good for farming. They had to dig up tree to make their gardens. It was mostly worth it more most of the pioneer, but sadly many passed away because of diseases and dangers!

  10. Some of the pioneers achieved their goal and some did not make to Oregon. I think it was mostly worth it to go to Oregon because they got bigger land and fresh air. It was kind of shocking that the oxen ate spare clothes that fell out of the wagon! The kids did not go to school for three years! 1 out of 10 people died on the trail! I think it is cool that they had cards back then! So, pioneers were fortunate to start a new life In Oregon with all the great stuff even if they had to work hard!

  11. I think it was worth it for most pioneers because they got free farm land, clean water and rivers filled of fish. It was not worth it for some pioneers because they left family and some family died. I think it was hard for the pioneers. They had to travel 2,000 miles and then when they get there they have to build a home. It was sad for the Native Americans because they were forced on a reservation.

  12. Some pioneers achieve their goals. Some pioneers didn't achieve their goals. Some pioneers had a good time because really nothing bad happened. River crossing could be easy. Some pioneers didn't make it because they died, got left behind, and loss. Some weather was good like sunshine and beautiful days. But some weather was bad like dust storms, snow storms, rain storms. So, it was mostly hard, but their life in Oregon was good.

  13. I think it was worth it if no family members got killed on the trail. If they did not like work it wouldn't be a great trip for them. They achieved their goals if they got what they wanted like free land and having to go to school later, after their house is built. I think some were all stressed because they were on the trail for 4-8 months. It was also very hard for the native americans because after the people were Oregon trail, the government forced them to move out. It was very hard.

  14. Well it depends if you died then obviously that is not worth it. For the native Americans they did not think it was worth it. But the pioneers did (Well most of them) Go into the pioneers shoes. Imagine you just finished the hardest months of your life and finally you came to Oregon to find out that you are without a home throughout the winter and you are low on money and food. If the Oregon Trail did not kill you this would. But in all the stories that we read most of the time they get a happy ending BUT that is just in stories. Yes a few had a happy ending but the odds are so against it with the weather to starvation. But if you want to be on the Oregon trail than do it! But I would not I rest my case!

  15. I think it was mostly worth it because pioneers got a nice, new life. But it was not good for the Indians! For the people that DIED, it was not worth it. Cholera, river crossing and bad weather were hard, but they had good things in Oregon like fish, good farm land and new schoolhouses. If you like adventure, the trail is what you need.

  16. I am not so sure it was worth it. One out of ten people died. That is a huge scarifies. It seams easy just to start your life over or pack up and move. But... thats not so easy. You have to scarifies lives, buy a wagon, buy farm animals, maybe evan loos your life, leave family behind and much much much much more! Well they might have clean water and good farming land but that dose not mean that there is a sweet little town waiting for you. Got to go

  17. Some people when they got to Oregon they stayed is tents while houses were being constructed. On the way, many pioneers died because of cholera, accident gun shots and some fell out of wagons and got run over! River crossings are tough, too. So, the trail was worth the risk for some and not for all.

  18. The rivers and lakes were hard to cross. When they got to Oregon the emotions were mixed :) :(. Some stayed in tent before their realestate was finished.
