The Power of Words

Words can make someone's day or totally ruin it. Words can make your heart sing or crumble.

Please share an experience about the power of words. You could share a memory when someone's words made your feel great or a time when your words were helpful to someone. You may also share a negative memory without using any names.

  1. I remember a time when I was in second grade and my friend Kara's words saved me. That morning, my mom pulled my bangs back into a rubber band and then put hairspray on the front. I thought my new style was nice. When I walked into the classroom, Blaire Schmizer just stared, opened his mouth wide and pointed at me. My heart stopped. Kids started to laugh and then went silent. In the silence, my best friend Kara said in a loud, strong voice, "Christine, your hair looks pretty." Then, the teacher looked sternly at Blaire and the other kids that laughed and everyone just went about their day. I was saved!

  2. When I was about five or six something really weird happened. My toenail just randomly fell off. I was with my cousin Lila and she is the one who noticed it. She said "Daphne your toenail!" I stated to freak out. Lila ran over to one of the life guards. All I really remember was Lila saying "Daphne you will be ok." under her breath. It made me feel really good haring her voice. Her actions and her words made me feel a lot better.

Got to go. See you tomorrow;)

  3. Well sadly I was not there but I heard that Mrs. Babine's speech in the forum was amazing! I do agree with Mrs. Babine about how you can say something nice but the way your tone of your voice is can also determine if it really IS nice. My sister is a victim of it because around the house she can say a nice thing but we can determine it differently. Do you have any experience with something like that?
P.S Sorry ms. Papadakes I did not have any ideas
for your blog!!! So So Sorry! :[ :[

  8. I thought Ms.Babine's speech was great! One time one of my friends called me fat as a joke, (I think it was a joke.) I was so sad and I just sat there frowning! It was really devastating to me. We are friends again now but I still remember that. :( I will see you guys tomorrow at school.

  9. I thought Ms. Babine's speech on the power of words was very good. One time I was in pre-k and I was late for school and when I went into class a little boy I am not going to say the name but they laugh at me. And he made other people laugh. All I wanted to do was run as fast as I can back to my house. And my best friend Libby Davis got up and said " tomorrow I bet you won't be late !" and then smiled really big. And then my the people who laughed got in big trouble and she had to call their parents. I was so happy that Libby saved me :)!

See you guys at school tomorrow!

  10. I was sick on the speech day so I don't know what she said. I my Heart felt bad when I got my self out at boomer ball. Everyone was laughing and calling me names. And that me sad. That was the most embarrassing moment of my life. I'm pretty sure everybody remembers that day and someday Ill look back and laugh. I hope none of my friends laughed! Sometimes your tone of voice can change a joke into an insult! Remember that guys!!!!!

    1. My little sister also blames everything on me. I always say, "That is NOT true! You LOVE to blame things on me." And I say that because it's basically true! I hate it when she gets me in trouble. Sometimes (rather, most of the time!) I talk my way out of it, and sometimes I don't. When I don't, I get really, really mad!

  12. Each day when I walk in the class room, I say hi to Ms. Papadakes. When I come in before her I wait to say hi, because it makes me feel good. When I'm tiered and she says good morning she makes me feel welcomed. I love when I can start the day with kind words. I hope she keeps doing it because she britons my day.

  14. when people say something I think it pretty much depends on what you say and how you say it. For example: Sometimes when i'm in a bad mood and I don't say yes please and my mom tells me to I say it grumbling and under my breath. And when any of my siblings do something wrong and my mom asks any of us to say sorry we sometimes say it quickly an run off. And if somebody said "You look really ugly today Annie." that would be an example of what you say. (Not that anybody has ever said that to me personally.)
    Bye, See you tomorrow.

  17. Hi, Mrs. Babine talked to us about kind words. Then, we talked about it with her. I like it when people say nice things to other people. I also like it when people use a nice tone of voice. It makes a difference. I hope that I can help someone feel better by choosing my words carefully.
