Panda Path...Hearts filled with Joy!

We had the most rewarding experience today sharing

our books with new Pre-K friends at Panda Path!

Reflecting on the day, what did you enjoy most? How did it feel reading and giving the books to the students? Please share any thoughts that you have about this wonderful experience!

  1. I had a wonderful time watching you all interact with the Panda Path students. I was so impressed watching you all make eye contact with your new friends and share comforting smiles. I loved listening to you all ask questions to get to know your buddies better. Some people asked about favorite food and some asked about brothers and sisters. I even heard you all trying your Spanish conversations skills. When I heard Ms. Sarah explain that the children that go to Panda Path families don't have much money or resources, I felt sad for them. But, I also felt glad that their was a nice school like Panda Path for them to attend. I was impressed that the children get to eat at the school. My heart was filled with joy as we left the school. Spending time and sharing books with the children was not only fun, but rewarding!

  2. I had so much fun reading to those kids! My first buddy was really nice, and spoke some English. She picked out the book Waiting is not Easy. My second buddies didn't really speak any English, and were really shy. But they liked the books they picked out and started reading them as soon as they picked them out their favorite one. One of them picked Patchwork help a Friend, and the other picked Rosie Revere, Engineer. It felt really good to read to kids who didn't speak good English, didn't have a lot of money, and lived near there. That was such a fun experience!

  3. I thought it was so fun meeting little kids. My buddys would not speak at all. When I asked them a question they either point or nod. It was surprising that they didn't like Scaredy Squirrel. Instead my buddys chose other books like Llama Llama and Nat. It was an awesome experience. I can't wait for more Field Trips. PS They had an XBOX 36O and a WII !!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I loved reading the books to the students and giving the books to them to. All the students i got spoke a little English. I felt a amazing when i gave the books to them. I thought this was going to really hard and it actual turned out very easy. I like how you don't haft to pay to go to the school. I am very happy because it is a school for kids who are homeless and speak Spanish and need help with English. I am very surprised that they get to eat at school and you still do not need to pay for it.

  6. I thought it was really fun to go and read to the kids at Panda Path. The kids were really cute. The one thing that bothered me was that they did not talk to me. The reason why is because I felt like they were sometimes not paying attention and I just don't like that. But it is ok because that are like 3 so I understand. But I had a lot of fun reading to them! I loved one of my partners because they really joined in and when I gave them the book they started to read the book to them self and they really made me felt like I read well to them because they just read it to me how I read it to them.

  7. At Panda Path, my first buddy could only speak Spanish. He was really qiuet and did not have any since of humor. But my second buddy had alot of since of humor and would smile alot. It was fun meating people we dont know. And it was fun for them because they could understand what we said. And it was sad how the director said that some of them dont have lots of money or they dont have lots of food.

  11. I loved my Panda Path buddy's! They were just the cutest things! The thing I liked the most was how nice the kids are. They did not know how to read so we had to read to them. The kids families don't have a lot of money and it does not cost money to go there. One of my buddies spoke only Spanish and one was very quiet. The other one was very talkative and spoke English.

  13. Today we went to Panda Path. I enjoyed my buddies because they were really good at communicating and listening. I was happy that they got to have a book to take home with them because they may not have a lot of toys at home. I was happy to donate my ten dollars. I want to go back again!

  15. Panda Path was so, so, so fun!
I had Spanish buddies, and it was very hard communicating with them! I said, "Flip the page now!" and they just gave me a blank stare. Eventually, I decided to tell my buddy, "Flip", and I pretended to flip the page. "Now, you flip!" and they figured out what I meant.
I really thought it was wonderful interacting with our buddies.
I really think they felt shy at first, but, sooner than later, they warmed up to us.
At the beginning of the trip, the third graders sat on the tiny teeny bleachers- they only had two rows!-and we listened to Mrs. Sarah talk to us about how the families of children that came to Panda Path were not very rich in income (money) or resources.
I felt so bad for them, but I was glad that there is a kind school for them (especially for them), so they could have a school to go to and not spend all of their money on school for their children.
I thought my buddies were really, really cute. At one point in the second group (for some reason that is still unknown to me), these four kids saw me holding up a book and they ran over to me and sat down, smiles on their curious faces.
It was kind of funny because everyone else had one or two buddies and I had four, and eventually one kid started to wander off. I still had three kids to read to, so I started to read. But, the kids spoke Spanish, and they spoke English very little, and as for me, I spoke English, and Spanish very little.
But I was persistent, and I used the limited Spanish vocabulary and knowledge that I already had, to summarize the words and describe the pictures. All of the kids found a book that they loved!
Today I came to Panda Path with seven books I was willing to donate, and I left with none!
I left on the bus with happiness filling my heart. I loved seeing the smiles on their faces, and that let me know that they really appreciated it, and I had done something extremely kind for them.

  16. I so enjoyed joining you on your trip today. I was most proud of the way you engaged with the Panda Path students, helping them feel comfortable. Sometimes it can be difficult to capture the attention of 3 and 4 year olds! You all made such a great effort. I loved hearing you all asking them questions about themselves. You stepped up and acted like teachers today, thinking more about others than yourselves. Way to go!

It will be fun to go pajama shopping for them in a couple of weeks.
