  1. Candace Fleming has made one of my favorite books of my childhood. She mad tipy tipy tipy hide and muncha muncha muncha. She would tell stores that sometimes were not true.I did that in kindergarten. She would have a problem wen her friends came over and there was no three legged cat or tiger or bear or snake so she did not make very many friends. She was very successful in life and made really good books!

  2. Wow! This video was so good. I learned that she liked to tell stories, and that she made her stories up. She became a author by telling stories. She writes picture books, early chapter books, non-fiction for middle and upper school. I am so exited for Candace Fleming to come to our school.

In the video, she said she was popular because she told really cool stories! It would be fun to listen to her stories that she made up when she was in Kindergarten. I can't wait to read some of her books and the amazing stories that she published. I am super excited for her to come to Kinkaid!

  6. Candace Fleming would lie about having a cat with 3 legs. She would say that it scared off a bear and a tiger. But she said that when people would see her house there wasn't any woods near by.

  7. I was kinda of surprised when she lied about her 3 leg cat. I was kinda of funny how she said her cat fought the tiger, snake and the bear. I had no books for spring break and in are class room there was a book called Strong Heart It is about a police dog that became famous. Strong Heart is based on a true story. I am kind of mad that she is coming on March 28th because my birthday is on March 27th. I can't wait till Candace Fleming is coming.

  10. I think that those kindergarteners were very very gullible. Those stories were really wacky. That three legged cat reminds me of Blinky the Three Eyed Fish from The Simpsons. I want to be an author and illustrator when I grow up.

  17. I am so excited that Candace Fleming is coming to Kinkaid! She will be the visiting author for the 2017-2018 school year. I can't wait to read some of the amazing books that she wrote and published, like the one that Mrs. Hicks will read us!
They sound very fun and interesting to read.
Candace Fleming was from Chicago, and from a time when she was very young, it was clear she would grow up to be a writer, or, at least, a storyteller when she grew up.
When she was a little child, when she couldn't write, she talked about how it was frustrating that she had a story in her head and she couldn't write it, and the story was coming much faster than what she could do with a pencil, so she started telling her stories to her family and friends.
But, she didn't tell anyone that she was making these stories up, so when she was in kindergarten she told her friends all about her special three- legged cat named Spot.
Candace had a series of books about herself and her cat, called "The Adventures of Candy and Spot." (Candy is a nickname for Candace.)
Candace would entertain her friends every day with new stories about their trips to the woods behind her house, and she even told them she once met a tiger, and her three- legged cat Spot fought him off.
Another time she told her friends there was a bear in the woods and Spot fought him again.
The problem was her friends came to her house to see her woods, bear, snake, tiger, and most of all, Spot. But, she didn't have a tiger, or a snake, or a bear, or even a three legged cat named Spot, so she was not a very popular kindergartener.
It continued until around the time Candace was in second grade.
Her teacher told her if she put her stories down, she could still share her fiction stories with her friends.
She discovered she had a real passion for words. She loved how they made her feel, and she liked putting them together to make stories.
And soon she will share one of her stories with us!

  18. I am so glad that Candice Fleming is coming to the Kinkaid school and we watched a video about her and I have some brain tracks but not any BK. Candice was born in Chicago she once said that once she grows up she wants to be a writer. She made up stories that she had a three legged cat that she named spot. It was very interesting that none of her stories are true.
She was not a very popular Kindergartener because of that.
She once told a story that she was walking in the woods and a tiger came up and her three legged cat fought him off and a bear came and fought him off and then a snake came and attacked them and her three legged cat ate him. After she told that story her friends came to her house and wanted to see the tiger and the bear and the woods but the problem was that none of that is true. Her teacher said that if she puts her stories down she could sill tell fiction with her friends. Soon she will share stories with us! I hope I got you started on Candice Fleming BYE for now.
