Shoshone Shout-out!

The People of the Great Basin survived in smaller groups in desert-like conditions! They were tough and clever people.

  1. The Shoshone are a very interesting tribe. During the hot summers, they wore very few clothes. Everybody had a job in the family. The Shoshone did not have written laws like us.

  2. One of the most interesting facts about the Comanche tribe is that they had food names for their bands. Bands are what Comanches called groups. Comanche lived in cone shaped houses called teepees. They could be packed up for buffalo hunts.

  3. The Shoshone did not have written laws. They were expected to be honest and kind. A punishment in a band was usually a scolding. Sacagawea was a women in the Shoshone tribe. There are about 7,900 Shoshone in the U.S. They became buffalo hunters like the Plains tribes.

  4. The men hunted for rabbits, buffalo, sheep, squirrels and birds. Women gathered roots and berries. Each family member had a job. The boys worked with their dad and the girls worked with their mother.

  5. The kids did not get punished. The Shoshone believed as their spirits as a wolf and a coyote. There were no laws. Those are the most interesting facts that I have found so far!
