Shawnee Sharing!
ThesenomadicNative Americans roamed the forests with other Eastern Woodland tribes. They certainly had troubling times with Europeans like the other tribes!
Please share some fascinating facts that you have learned so far.
The Shawnee was always on the move. If One person moved the howl village moved. When Europe first came to America the Shawnee tribe thought they where good. Than Europe tried to push them out. This meant WAR! The Shawnee grew lots of crops. Such as corn, beans, squash and pumpkins. The Shawnee tribe started leggings. Both men and woman war it. They held many religious ceremonies. They gave thanks to the woman who grew the crops.
Each shawnee village has at least 40 long houses in a village. The shawnee people live in Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and Louisiana. The Shawnee used bear teeth to decorate clothing. WOW right? The Shawnee people usually lived on high hills so if they were attacked they would have the hight advantage. While fighting in battles ( or wars) the shawnee tribe used bow and arrows. The name shawnee comes from the word "southerns,"
They used bow & arrow before the Europeans gave them guns. They fought with the British until the British lost so the Shawnee gave up all there land. They only lived in longhouses.
I learned that their longhouses are big enough to hold a large family. I also learned that to prepare for war, the warriors played a game of 'Little War'. I can't believe that nearly 15,000 people are Shawnee! I thought that it was strange that they were nomadic but they didn't take their houses with them!
