Hopi Happenings!
The Hopi people got their name from a word that means "peaceful people". Hmmm...very interesting and quite a contrast to our Comanche tribe!

The Hopi have so many interesting facts. One of them is that couples have to be from different clans to get married. They have so many different interesting facts. I don't know which is my favorite! Another fact is that in in Hopi families women own the houses and land. Aren't all those facts great!
I have enjoyed learning about the Hopi people. There are so many interesting things about them. They live in large stone houses. They do a dance called the basket dance. The girls do a special dance called the butterfly dance. They eat corn, antelope, rabbit and beans. The Hopi are very interesting. I hope you think so, too.
We have been learning about Native American. Here are some of my facts. Leaders go to the clan that start the tribe. Here's one more. Their food comes from the desert. They eat rabbits and they grow corn. Men wear shirts and pants. Women wear black cotton dresses.
The Hopi fought Spanish soldiers out of their land along with the Pueblo. The Hopi love corn! They even have a Corn Dance. They also have a Butterfly Dance, the Bean Dance, the Basket Dance, and so on. The Hopi live in the Southwest Culture Area. Their homes are 2 or 3 stories high. Their separated into 34 clans. You have to be from 2 different clans to get married.
I was most interested in what food they eat. So let's start with that they grow. They grow corn, squash, and blue corn. They make things out of things they get such as: blue corn flour, and piki (a kind of bread out of blue corn flour). Things they hunt for are deer, antelope, and rabbit. Things they get on the way are nuts, berries, and seeds. Wow that's a lot of things to eat! I think their clothes are super cool. The women wear cotton black dresses and the gentlemen wear cotton pants and cotton shirts. Those are a few cool things about the Hopi!
