Shawnee Sharing!

These nomadic Native Americans roamed the forests with other Eastern Woodland tribes. They certainly had troubling times with Europeans like the other tribes!
Please share some fascinating facts that you have learned so far.

  1. the shawnee eat lots of foods such as corn, beans, squash, hominy(women make it out of corn...hot cereal...can be seasoned with meat), meat, fried bread/most popular, berries, nuts, Indian bread, onions, buffalo, deer. Sense the shawnee live in the woodlands it is easy to hunt and find food. The shawnee have lots of wars and battles. Some people fight by playing lacrosse.

  2. I learned that men shaved their heads before going in to battle. The Shawnee people believed that everything on earth had a spirit and they believed that nature was sacred. In 1745 the Shawnee people where forced to give up their lands in Ohio and move to indiana and then they moved to Missouri, then Kansas and finally to Oklahoma. Dried pumpkin is very important to the Shawnee people. Some talented people can call Buffalo, Deer, Turkey and panthers close enough to KILL!!!! They participated in almost every war of the North West.

  3. I learned that the Shawnee tribe is nomadic, which means they rome around a lot. I also learned that the Shawnee tribe participated in LOTS of wars. They started out in Ohio then moved to Indiana, then moved to Kansas, and then finally Oklahoma. Today their are 4 Shawnee groups today. Oh, and collectors payed as much as $10 for 1 single eagle feather!

  4. Their main food was corn. Shawnee started out in Ohio. The women made Hominy which is a hot cereal which can be seasoned with meat. Some talented Shawnee people can call Buffalo, Deer, Turkey and panthers close enough to kill! The Shawnee fight a lot. The Shawnee played a game close to soccer .

  5. The Shawnee played football also known as soccer. Just like I do! Their main food is corn. They liked to make cereal out of the corn and sometimes they used meat to season the cereal. The men sometimes wear leggings and they make it out of animal skin. They don't live in teepees, they live in houses made of animal skin and trees. Instead of popping the teepee into an umbrella all the materials to make their houses are right in from of them when they travel.

  6. I learned a lot about the Shoshone people like what they eat or where they live. Good thing for you because i'm going to take you on a tour first I will beliefs the Shoshone people believe. That luck comes from respecting and honoring the spirit and they also believed that the wolf created the world and the people they called wolfs the creator also known as the Appah it means ( Our Father ). The Shoshone people called the earth ( Mother ). The Shoshone people also believed that the land, rivers, mountains, and plants especially in sagebrush and pin nut trees. Rituals give thanks the spirits followed by births, weddings, and death. Hunters and warriors prayed to the spirits for successes when there hunting and in battles. Dancing was a big part of the Shoshone tribe. most often dances are the chokecherry dance the ghost dance the round dance the war dance and the warm dance. Shoshone men in a band have two or three wives. Shoshone lady's have more than one husband. Now to the food category it is hard to find food because they live in the Grate Basin ( big bowl ) and its dry and so they have to split up. there main food is Salmon, Sheep, Rabbits, Deer and Buffalo.
